Hey!
My name is Anna-Marta Kozlovska, and I recently co-produced the first ever Scope Helsinki Dance Forum . The event took place in Helsinki at Tekstin Talo and Bar Tÿpo, and it was a full day dedicated to bringing people together through dance, learning and conversation.
This has been an incredibly productive period of building and developing this project and the outcomes ended up being deeply appreciated by all the participants involved:
SCOPE DANCE FORUM is a new concept that was created to make dance classes and industry conversations more accessible. The idea is simple: we bring together teachers, dancers and people from the scene, offer affordable workshops in a specific dance style, and then continue the day with a shared panel discussion where we talk openly about the culture, the industry and the realities behind it.
This first edition focused on Hip-Hop.
Our goal was to create something special and rare and I truly believe we succeeded
The day consisted of two collaborative workshops, led by four hip-hop dance teachers working in pairs Jesse Vaskelainen x Unna Terävä and Gabo Pinto x Marta Kozlovska. Each workshop brought together different styles and approaches, which created a really rich and varied learning experience.
After the workshops, we all gathered for a panel talk where we opened up conversations around hip hop culture, its history, artistic authenticity, modern-day challenges, social media, burnout and creative blocks, and the balance between consuming culture and actually being present in it as well as where to seek for inspiration and opportunities for growth.
The atmosphere throughout the day was something I feel really grateful for! So full of curiosity, playfulness, focus and openness as well as suitable challenge! Everyone left feeling that they had learned something new, connected with the community and genuinely enjoyed every moment.
I truly hope this was the beginning of something important — something that can grow into more spaces where people can simply come together, learn, and just dance.
