Gamble

Gamble is a dance project exploring aspects of uncertainty and chance through movement, sound and composition. Do things happen randomly out of coincidence or are they destined to happen? How do we deal with uncertainty and what feelings or responses does it provoke?

The movement material in Gamble is based on but not limited to the performers’ respective dance styles: popping and breaking. Working with different dynamics, movement qualities and the sense of gravity, the performers aim to embody a range of emotions that uncertainty may bring ranging from excitement and playfulness to fear and anxiety. Traditional six-sided dice symbolises the element of chance in Gamble. The word die/dice originates from the Latin word datum, which means “what is given or played”. The performers use the dice to randomise movement and play games on stage. Hence, each performance is unique and in part unfolds as given by chance.
